College Fashionista: How would you describe your style?
Olivia Valdez: My style… Let’s see, my style comes from two places. One, vintage wear and the ability to make something old new again. And two, the fact that I dislike the chance of anyone wearing the same thing as I do. It has not happened to me yet, but I fear the day it does. Therefore I mix old pieces from different eras with new pieces from today to give it a bit of an edge. I guess if I had to name my style I would call it vintage chic. CF: What is your favorite piece in your closet?
OV: Wow that’s a tough one. There are so many good things to choose from. I guess I would have to say my late Grandmother’s vintage cardigan, I believe it’s from the 1920s era. It’s really nothing special. It’s black and passed the knee in length with some intricate beading on the shoulders. What makes it special to me is the fact that it’s the only item I have left from her. When I wear it, it makes me feel closer to her and proud. Not many of the pieces in my closet can do that.
CF: What inspires your style?
OV: Specifically I can’t say that there is one thing that inspires my style. It comes a little bit from the way I feel that day and another part from my environment surrounding me. If I feel calm and content I might go with a beach themed outfit. If I’m feeling down I might go with a punk rock theme. It all just depends. I really like the idea of having the power to be whomever I want to be when I wake up every morning. I’m versatile with my style, but one theme that is consistent throughout my style is the contrast of old meets new. If you could call that an inspiration, that would be my biggest one.
