Remember those denim skirts that were a staple in our closets during middle school? Well now they are back and looking better than ever. Coming in a variety of silhouettes and washes, there is no doubt one can find that denim skirt that is the ideal addition to their fall wardrobe.
I immediately saw this Fashionista using her skater-style jean skirt to add a ’90s twist to her look that we have seen in an array of fall collections, such as 3.1 Phillip Lim and Saint Laurent. With her flared denim skirt and cropped sweater, she creates an ensemble that shows how function and style can easily be paired together. To top it off, she adds a grunge factor with her jet black Converse sneakers, creating that ultimate throwback outfit that has us all wanting to channel our favorite style icons from this momentous fashion decade.
Name: Nina Jafferjee
Major: Marketing and Finance
CollegeFashionista: What clothes are you wearing and where are the different pieces from?
Nina Jaffergee: The skirt and sweater are from Urban Outfitters, the shoes are Converse, the watch is from Fossil and the bracelets come from Alex and Ani as well as some other random stores.
CF: What is your favorite item in your closet?
NJ: I love my high-top Converse. For walking around on and off campus, they are perfect and stand out among the typical boots and flats. I also get a lot of use out of my flannels because they are super cozy and easy to pull on during those cooler days.
CF: What are your go-to stores?
NJ: I often wind up shopping in Urban Outfitters and LF, but I love finding special pieces in thrift shops that I know no one else will have.
CF: What inspires your style?
NJ: I will dress in anything that makes me feel comfortable. During the fall, I choose casual looks that are still nice enough that don’t make me look like I just rolled out of bed. I still love to get reactions from people, so like some of my style icons, such as Alexa Chung and Shay Mitchell, I am not afraid to go for the outlandish look.
CF: What trends and colors are you most excited about for this fall?
NJ: A lot of fall runway collections exhibited styles that were oversized and very casual, so I know I can still look trendy even if I am just dressing to feel comfortable. I will be investing in a lot of fall sweaters and colors, as well as boots which can go with anything now, from pants to dresses and skirts.
How To: Pull on a cute cropped sweater with this acid wash skater skirt. Pair the outfit with some black high-tops and a cool cuff or stack of bangles and you can channel that cool kid vibe in and out of the classroom.
