While wide-brimmed felt hats have been making appearances in the bohemian wardrobe everywhere from the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to the streets of New York City, this Fashionista and Atlanta native shows off how she beats the heat and translates the hat into her own perfect summer accessory.
Name: Nicole H.
Major: History and Political Science
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Nicole H: I am wearing a French Connection dress, a hat from a vintage shop in Martha’s Vineyard, a friend’s heels and a David Yurman ring.
CF: How would you describe your style?
NH: I would say that my style is very classic with vintage and preppy influences.
CF: What is your favorite garment in your wardrobe?
NH: It was completely impractical, but my favorite garment would have to be my gold sequined senior prom dress. I had never worn anything that aggressive before and it was so much fun. Now, it is just like a little disco ball in my closet.
CF: Where is your favorite place to shop in Philly?
NH: I haven’t really lived in Philly long enough to have any favorites yet—I’m pretty loyal to the shops in my hometown of Atlanta. There is a great neighborhood there called Little Five Points with amazing vintage and antique shops. I also love shopping on vacation—King Street in Charleston, South Carolina and Newbury Street in Boston are great.
CF: What is your favorite summer accessory?
NH: My favorite summer accessories are my hats! I sort of collect them. They’re pretty necessary, considering how fair my skin is and they have so much personality.
How To: Top off any outfit with this Fashionista’s favorite summer accessory: a hat. With hundreds of options for hats everywhere from Etsy to Shopbop, every Fashionista can surely find a floppy felt hat to match her style.
