Ugh — another rainy, humid day in the great state of South Carolina. Many of us can agree that when it comes to getting dressed for 88 degrees and thunder, we either draw a blank and skip class altogether or take the plunge and wind up with hair looking like Mufasa’s mane. It doesn’t seem that this type of conflicting weather has a win-win solution when it comes to outfits and appearances — that is, until I spotted this Fashionista and her red hot kicks.
Pairing basics like a champ, this Fashionista used silver and color to accessorize her rainy day attire. Opting for olive pants and a basic gray tee over typical black everything, her ensemble has a lighter disposition when paired with the floral details of her parka and her bright red sneakers.
Name: Morgan Epperson
Major: Visual Communications
CollegeFashionista: Rain plus humidity is the hardest type of weather to dress for. How did you manage to make your outfit look both chic and appropriate?
Morgan Epperson: I have a colorful variety of basics with flexible styles so I try to play them up to the best of my ability. So when it comes to inclement weather, I’ll pair one of my basic pieces with brighter colors because the combo makes my outfit feel better to wear in the rain.
CF: What is your go-to accessory or item of clothing you just can’t leave your house without?
ME: I wear my silver Michele watch everyday and feel naked without it. I am constantly on a tight schedule so having my watch comes in handy when I can’t pull out my phone in class — plus, it matches with everything!
CF: Do you have any style icons, sites or blogs that you gather inspiration from?
ME: I’m a huge fan of Emma Roberts’s style because of her interesting use of basics. I also follow Rachel Parcell of Pink Peonies and love her use of vibrant colors. Her go-to store happens to be J.Crew, where I’ve worked for several years and have a lot of pieces in my wardrobe from.
CF: Let’s say you have a $1000 gift card to your favorite store. Where do you go to use it and why?
ME: I would without a doubt go to Nordstrom. I have been a fan of the company since I can remember and always have such a great experience in their stores. It carries all my favorite brands and I would be able to shop in multiple departments!
How To: Just like this Fashionista, tackle rainy days with a parka and pair of bright sneakers over a raincoat and rain boots. Both will keep you dry and give your outfit more character in the midst of overcast and gloomy skies. Silver looks great with everything, so consider accessorizing with a statement necklace and stacks of rings. Together, these outfit tips will help make your rainy day that much brighter.
