Nearly 800 years ago an Italian designing technique took embroidery and gave it a new meaning. Today, they refer to this technique as cutwork and it is making a comeback in the world of fashion. This Fashionista was spotted wearing this leather cutwork top as she we was on the way to meet with her professor. I had to get to know a little more about her and her style.
Name: Morgan DeBoest
Major: Magazine Journalism
CollegeFashionista: What does Fashion mean to you?
Morgan DeBoest: Fashion means individuality to me. It helps me define myself as I’m growing older and figuring out who I am in this world. Fashion allows me to show people a bit of my personality right from the first glance. It means picking a few pieces from different experiences I’ve had and holding on to those memories just by throwing on a scarf from London or slipping on my mother’s jewelry.
CF: Where do you get fashion inspiration?
MD: I am a magazine junkie. I subscribe to over 10 magazines and usually you won’t find me without one in my bag. I draw inspiration from those glossy pages and from street style blogs.
CF: How would you describe your sense of style?
MD: My style is dressy, black and classic. I play with jewelry and accessories but I don’t subscribe to every trend out there.
CF: Where do you usually shop?
MD: My absolute favourite store is H&M. Hennes & Mauritz have some of the cutest components of an outfit and they’re inexpensive as individual pieces.
CF: If you had all the money in the world, what piece of clothing or accessory would you buy?
MD: I would want to have Valentino design my wedding dress.
How To: The cutwork on this Fashionista’s top adds a luxe element to the leather. However, a key thing to remember is to refrain from sporting that kind of embroidery from head to toe. If you notice, this Fashionista smartly pairs her top with a simple skirt that she got from Merona. To complete the look, she accessorizes with a watch from Francesca’s, a statement necklace from Nordstrom and sandals from Sam & Libby. Try this top with printed pants if you are looking to accommodate this look for cooler weather in the fall.
