Today’s Fashionista is a Columbia grad student who I spotted strolling through Washington Square Park. Her eye-catching coat and altogether unique look caught my eye immediately. I love the details in her outfit such as the floral lining of her coat and the subtle pattern of her scarf. Dressing for the cold can be uninspiring at times (due to not wanting to go outside) but this Fashionista proves that you can bundle up while still looking chic. Read below to find out which trend she’s loving this season.
Name: Morenike Fajana
Year: Third Year
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?
Morenike Fajana: Hopefully it’s a little urban chic, maybe? I don’t know — a mix of everything.
CF: Where do you shop?
MF: I definitely try to go to vintage stores a lot. I also really like British fashion so Topman and a lot of other stores in England; I love their menswear. That’s something else: buying men’s blazers, men’s sweaters, shirts…
CF: What inspires your style; do you read a lot of blogs or magazines?
MF: No, it’s definitely what I see people wearing. I think people in New York and other cities are pretty stylish so I definitely see what people are wearing and try to put my own spin on it.
CF: What are you wearing a lot of this season?
MF: This winter, I think just shimmer and sparkles — like my nails right now. I got some new really sparkly, shimmery dresses; I think that’s good for winter.
How To: For inexpensive, colored pants, check out Uniqlo’s collection of legging pants. They come in a lot of different colors and are extremely comfortable (perfect for going to class). Pair them with a chunky, wool statement coat and a patterned snood. Finish off the look with western booties, which will also look great with flirty dresses once spring comes around. Also, if you’re loving this Fashionista’s bold orange nails, check out Sephora by O.P.I’s “I Think I Cayenne”.
