If you are one to follow trends, take notes from this week’s Fashionista. Plaid is trending on the runways for this fall/winter 2013 and this Fashionista is ‘on trend.’ Her favorite thing about fashion is self-expression. She expresses herself through her handmade headband which gives a girly flair to her described style of grunge and preppy.
Name: Moira Miller
Major: Fashion Design
CollegeFashionista: Where did you get your dress and your headband?
Moira Miller: It’s actually just an oversized shirt from H&M and I made the headband myself.
CF: What is your favorite trend right now?
MM: Plaid and tartan prints.
CF: Has your style changed since you came to college?
MM: Absolutely. I was very bohemian before I came to college and I’ve prepped up over the last year.
CF: What is your favorite season to dress for and why?
MM: Fall because of layering.
CF: How would you describe your style?
MM: Something along the lines of grunge and preppy.
CF: Is there a certain person or brand that influences your style?
MM: Jack Wills, definitely.
CF: What is your favorite thing about fashion?
CF: What is your favorite piece of clothing or accessory that you own?
MM: All of my grandmom’s old pins.
How To: This Fashionista’s ‘dress’ is actually just an oversized plaid button-down! To recreate this look, search for the perfect oversized plaid button-down. You could try thrifting men’s flannel shirts from a local thrift or consignment store. Cinch in the waist with a thin belt, like this one from South Moon Under. Another alternative is this plaid shirt dress from H&M. If you’re not feeling the shirt dress concept, try this plaid wool dress. Pair either of these looks with over-the-knee socks and oxfords or boots.
