Neutrality is a beautiful thing. Alone, plain-colored articles of clothing seem to be nothing special. When worn together, a simple outfit with basic colors can become a dazzling ensemble. This Fashionista wore a dark navy blue sweater with dark pants to accent the bright blue of her denim jacket. Her shoes and beanie further contributed to the outfit by adding urban street style components to give her look an edgy vibe. Her bright red backpack served as the only bright accessory, which complemented the rest of the colors with its burnt, aged look. This Fashionista was rolling in style for her morning stroll downtown.
Name: Michelle Nguyen
CollegeFashionista: Where do you get your fashion inspiration?
Michelle Nguyen: I’m just going for what’s basic and what never goes out of style. I wear this sweater and this jean jacket like, every day. Other than that, pretty much whatever I can ride my bike in.
CF: Where do you usually shop?
MN: Thrift stores and American Apparel.
CF: What do you like about fashion and when did you start getting interested in it?
MN: My older sisters really influenced me. They’re really into high fashion. I tried to get into it because they were into it, but I realized I’m really just into more basic style.
CF: Do you have any fashion icons that you follow?
MN: Last year I was really into Alexa Chung.
CF: When you first started getting into fashion, who did you follow?
MN: I was really into blogs my sisters would follow. Blogs like knight cat and street style blogs like JAK & JIL. Those are pretty high-end. But I like the street style blogs, like the ones right off the street.
CF: Do you still follow blogs? If you do, which ones?
MN: I don’t really follow blogs, but I look at Tumblr artists a lot for inspiration.
