FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Michelle Moreland

For as long as I can remember, my mother has constantly reminded me that less is more. I’ll admit, in high school, I pretty much tuned out that piece of advice. However, as I get older and grow into my own personal style I realize my mom had been right all along. You never want to be the girl who looks like she’s trying too hard and therefore, there’s nothing wrong with keeping it simple. In fact, nowadays, it seems my eye is drawn to Fashionistas, like Michelle, who seem to have it all together in their polished and classic street looks.

Name: Michelle Moreland

Major: Systems Engineering

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?

Michelle Moreland: Today I am wearing a Mackage coat, Frankie B. coated jeans, Nike wedge sneakers and a Rebel Yell top.

CF: What are your thoughts on the motto, “less is more?”

MM: In this weather, less is definitely not more. However, I do love the basics . For me, all I need to spice up an outfit is a fun accessory or a statement bag! Having too much going on can become overwhelming and excessive. Keeping it simple can certainly go a long way, trust me.

CF: Although it’s freezing now, spring is just around the corner. Which trends are you most excited to try out?

MM: Although my color of choice is generally black, spring fashion always inspires me to get colorful statement pieces; whether it be a funky red bag or some royal blue pumps, I think everyone should take a risk in the spring and go for colors you might not usually be drawn too.

CF: What items do you feel are essential to creating a classic look?

MM: Sun or no sun, you should always have your favorite pair of shades with you. As for a classic look, I believe your signature bag and a simple, yet elegant coat can do wonders to your outfit. You may look edgy, but a quick change to bag and coat can change all that in an instant.

How To: Burgundy is certainly a hot color this season, so try these amazing skinny jeans to begin this outfit. Next, add a cute graphic tee to layer with a big, cozy sweater to keep your warm. Since outerwear is huge in the winter, add this long coat, which is the perfect twist on a more classic look. Remember, it’s cold, so there is nothing wrong with adding an infinity scarf, fingerless gloves or a turban headband.
