Victoria’s Secret teaches us girls to “Think Pink” and back in the day Barbie taught us that everything, from clothing to jeeps, looks better in pink! Some girls will grow out of their pink phase by the time they hit their tweens, but others will grow up to be the epitome of a girly-girl. This week’s Fashionista, a true girly girl, never got over her love of pink. As a 19-year-old college student, she understands pink can still be fabulous as long as it’s in moderation.
Name: Melanie Stein
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?
Melanie Stein: Today I’m wearing a white cami tucked into flowy blue shorts by Moon Collection. I’m also wearing my favorite MINKPINK floral blazer and killer pink shoes from GoJane.
CF: With the start of another semester finally here, what’s your approach to back-to-school fashion?
MS: I love being able to wear some of my favorite summer pieces for the start of school and into early fall. Summer patterns and pops of color seem to make any school day a little brighter, so I like to keep tons of color in my back-to-school wardrobe for as long as I can.
CF: Color is always in style. How do you keep your wardrobe looking vibrant?
MS: I always love putting lots of color into my outfits. I like to stick with some basic, neutral pieces and then I’ll pair those with a few of my most colorful pieces. Balancing out colors and neutrals allows me to brighten up any outfit without it being too overwhelming.
CF: How do you recommend incorporating pink into your wardrobe without looking like Malibu Barbie?
MS: I recommend that you stick with one or two pink items or accessories that draw attention and add cuteness to your look, but remember you don’t want to go overboard. My staple pink items are my MAC Lady Gaga lipstick, my hot pink booties, and, of course, pink nails.
How To: This outfit is clearly all about color, and the more color, the better. Try a floral blazer with a white camisole underneath. Depending on the colors of the blazer, the color of your shorts will vary. However, for the purpose of this outfit, these lace-trimmed shorts are perfect. Now everyone knows that Jeffery Campbell’s “Lita” is a pretty sick shoe, but what would make them even better? Well, if you owned a denim spiked pair, I’m sure that would do trick. And for those days when you’re feeling Legally Blonde, Jeffrey Campbell’s got you covered with the “Lita” in a variety of smoking hot pinks.
