FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Melanie Lehnhardt

Fashionista Spotlight

Transitioning between weather changes and your wardrobe can be quite a challenge, especially with how unpredictable this winter season has been. With warmer temperatures just around the corner, it is time to remove some of those heavy layers and exchange them for bright colors, floral patterns, lace, cutouts and flowing dresses. So what items will be headlining this coming spring season? Check out what this stylish Fashionista looks forward to most and what emerging trends she will be trying out!

Name: Melanie Lehnhardt

Major: Marketing

Year: Junior

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?

Melanie Lehnhardt: My personal style is very Southwest inspired. I love wearing dresses, skirts, chunky necklaces, and cute shoes. My style is girly and reminiscent of someone who lives in the West. I love anything leather—leather purses, leather boots, leather accessories. I also like to add something with a pop of color.

CF: What trends are you looking forward to most this coming spring season and why?

ML: Sundresses. I love sundresses. I practically live in them. They are girly but can also be worn casually with something like a pair of cowboy boots. I’m also looking forward to dangly earrings, lace and cute flowery accessories. I’m a sucker for anything with a floral pattern.

CF: Are there any colors or specific styles that you are excited to try out this spring?

ML: Sea-foam green, white and coral. Tan skin is a great complement to coral and peach colors. I also have green eyes, so I like to wear green tops. And of course white, because it makes me look more tan!

CF: As you begin to enter the “real world” of internships and working opportunities, what is it that you look for when shopping for new clothing items?

ML: I try to pick looks that are the right amount of classy and fun. I think you can look completely professional without wearing clothes that are all monotone. My favorite top to wear to my internship is a long sleeve, emerald green Antonio Melani shirt. It has gold buttons, ruffles around the collar, and sheer sleeves. It doesn’t necessarily fall under my “Southwest” style, but it very much fits my color patterns and my love of traditional girly items. I love anything that stands out, without being unprofessional.

How To: Creating an outfit that is girly and spring friendly, like this Fashionista’s, is quick and easy. Select a solid colored dress in a bold shade, red is sure to catch anyone’s attention! For those days that are cooler and breezy, wear a pair of playful patterned tights. Finish the look with textured details like a leather cross-body bag and suede oxford ankle booties.
