Do you remember when you were in first grade, recess was only ten minutes away and sitting still felt like an impossible task? Well, for all of us fashion lovers, February is somewhat similar to first grade. Spring style is so close you can almost taste it, but temperatures are still a little too low for sundresses and skirts. Though most of us have lost our motivation for dressing our best while trying to cope with the cold, the February blues have been no match for this Fashionista. Spotted on her way home after a day of classes, she wore a cute, casual ensemble perfect for winter weather on any college campus.
Name: Meggy McConkey
Major: Communications and Psychology
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?
Meggy McConkey: To be honest, I am kind of all over the place. Whenever I see something that looks a little out of my comfort zone, I have to buy it. One day I’m wearing a blazer and colored jeans, and the next, I’m wearing all black. My go-to items are always Converse, oversized sweaters and dark wash jeans.
CF: If you could pick any store to have a shopping spree at, where would you go and why?
MM: I absolute love H&M; all of my favorite items of clothing are from there. They sell a wide variety of clothing and generally are very organized, so it’s easy to shop there and find everything I need. Their clothes are also good quality, so they hold up.
CF: What is your favorite thing about dressing for cold weather?
MM: I can’t lie— winter isn’t my thing! But, I love when I can bring out my heavier sweaters that I don’t get to wear during other seasons.
CF: Where do you find style inspiration?
MM: This is probably super typical, but I follow girls on Instagram who blog about style. I’ll screenshot their pictures, and then once I get to the mall, I’ll try to get things to copy their look.
CF: What about spring fashion are you most looking forward to?
MM: I love just wearing my Converse with rolled jeans, which is something I can’t do in the winter. I also dislike having to wear a winter coat all the time; I’d much rather just wear a cardigan or kimono, so I’m excited to do that in the spring.
How To: To get a comfy and couture look just like this Fashionista wore, pair a chunky, striped cardigan with a basic slub T-shirt. For your bottom half, slide on some olive green zipper jeans to keep it neutral while still being attentive to detail. If you want add a little extra pizzazz to your outfit, throw on a simple, gold pendant necklace or a solid eternity scarf to complete your look. Now you’re ready to survive six more weeks of winter in style!
