Although Labor Day has come and gone, summer fashion still reigns supreme in our hearts and minds especially at Notre Dame where the opportunity to sport warm weather clothes is more than a little short-lived. This Fashionista incorporates bright colors and a bold pattern into her Southern preppy look that’s perfect for a hot day of classes. With gold accessories, dark lips and bright nails that enhance her standout shorts, she shows off a clean, modern take on the classic beachy brand.
Name: Megan Fleming
Major: Chemistry and Business
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Megan Fleming: I am wearing my favorite Lilly Pulitzer shorts with gold Jack Rogers sandals and a plain white V-neck from Banana Republic. In terms of accessories, I kept it pretty simple with my gold monogram necklace, pearl earrings and Michael Kors watch.
CF: How would you describe your style?
MF: I would describe my style as classic and preppy. I love bright pops of colors throughout my outfits and fun statement jewelry.
CF: What colors do you like wearing most in the summertime?
MF: In the summertime I always love to pull out my neons and pastels. My favorite colors to wear this summer have been mint and neon coral.
CF: What are three items of clothing you simply can’t live without?
MF: Three things I absolutely cannot live without are my monogram necklace, Jack Rogers (in the summer months) and my black Longchamp tote.
CF: Name one clothing brand every college student should love.
MF: J.Crew without a doubt. And they even give a 15 percent off discount for college students!
CF: When it’s super hot outside, what items of clothing or shoes do you turn to?
MF: When it’s hot outside, I usually turn to sundresses and skirts to keep cool, but I always bring a jean jacket or cardigan for the strong air conditioning in classroom buildings.
CF: Describe your perfect back-to-school outfit.
MF: My perfect back-to-school outfit would probably be a chambray shirt with colored shorts and a fun statement necklace!
How To: Find a punchy pattern with a color scheme you can rock and build around that as the main focus of your outfit. If this is your first time to Lilly Pulitzer Land, look for a classically cut pair of shorts or a skirt that will give your look structure. Add a basic alice + olivia T-shirt, being careful not to draw attention away from your print, and gold sandals from Seychelles. A gold statement necklace will go a long way so go light on the earrings. Try a leather watch if need be, or choose a few thin bangles to complete the look.
