There’s always something I love about a girl who can take a classic look and make it her own. When I discovered this Fashionista, I just knew I had to share her effortlessly chic style with the CollegeFashionista world. From her crisp button-down (don’t forget the popped collar) to her creatively laced Superga sneakers, this apparel merchandising major nails it. I mean, she has lavender sunglasses. How chic can you get? Read below to hear about her least favorite fashion statement, dream splurges and what she’s looking forward to this fall!
Name: McKenzie Strawn
Major: Apparel Merchandising
CollegeFashionista: What is your favorite item in your closet?
McKenzie Strawn: My Tretorn sneakers. I always had a pair growing up, so they have a little bit of sentimental value. They are a staple piece in my wardrobe, and I hope to still be wearing them for the next 20 years.
CF: What are you looking forward to wearing this fall?
MS: More basics than I normally wear. Fall and winter are all about layering for me. A good pair of denim, the perfect T-shirt, a sweater, a utility vest and, if you’re lucky, a utility jacket on top of all this. Oh, and I can’t forget my recently purchased Sam Edelman booties. My feet better get use to these babies.
CF: What is one fashion faux pas you hate?
MS: Overalls. I don’t think I need to back that up.
CF: If you could splurge on one item for your closet, what would it be?
MS: I have never found the perfect leather jacket. I have tried many on in stores, lusted over many online and purchased a few that were just ‘OK,’ but have never found the right one. Naturally, the only ones I would give my left arm for are literally worth my left arm (cue sobbing over my Shopbop cart).
CF: Which celebrity’s style do you admire most?
MS: Taylor Tomasi Hill is a clothing chameleon— a term I would use to define me and my personal style. She truly has an innate way of putting herself together. Taylor is the perfect blend of simple, cool and chic, and I dig her effortlessness.
How To: This look is all about versatility and pairing up your basics. Grab your favorite pair of sneakers, high-waisted shorts and a rugged jacket to throw over a white button down. This look is the perfect way to transition into fall. You’ll get to wear your favorite new jacket while still being weather-conscious!
