As the summer heat begins to sizzle down, Fashionistas and Fashionistos are able to begin their pre-fall regime. This Fashionista focuses on light layering and neutral colors with metallic accents. While the weather is still warm, she opts for a chiffon tank to keep her cool and a pair of khaki jeans to bring in her favorite fall tones. Her style is boho glam as she picks an outfit that is casual yet could very easily be dressed up for a night out.
Name: Marissa Pretorius
Major: Human Kinetics (UBCO)
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?
Marissa Pretorius: I’m wearing green khaki pants that have a stitched pattern on the patched knee with zipper ankles and flap pockets. I’m wearing a button-up sleeveless chiffon shirt that has a beaded collar, which I got in Paris during the spring. My shoes are very detailed with many colors and a gold accent. They are Turkish loafers, very comfortable and stylish. They can be worn with a lot of things due to the colors and they can either dress-up or dress-down my outfits.
CF: When shopping, what are your priorities with prices, colors and style?
MP: I’m definitely attracted to more earthy tones. I don’t have a lot of bright colors in my closet. For price range I have more of a lower budget when it comes to shopping. I do really like things that nobody else has. I don’t like to wear very generic clothing. If something’s in style I’ll obviously try to find it, but I won’t be wearing it every day like everyone else. I like to be independent when it comes to my clothes.
CF: What do you usually wear when sitting in lectures?
MP: I lived in a very rainy place for school this year, so I had my green Hunter boots, a pair of dark jeans and a rain jacket with a scarf. The scarf was usually the most fashionable thing I was wearing to switch my outfit up. It’d be a paisley scarf, again, earthy tones or a brighter color.
CF: What’s your favorite season to dress for, and why?
MP: Oh, definitely fall! I love scarves. Scarves and layers are probably my favorite thing. [Fall] is so much cozier, whereas summer isn’t nearly as cozy, and winter is a bit more clogged in.
CF: What trends are you mostly looking forward to for fall 2013?
MP: I’m really liking the zippered jean look with the zipper on the side ankle. Also, sweaters! I love cashmere sweaters. Oh, and I also got new scarves in Turkey this year so I’m really looking forward to wearing them.
How To: Looking to replicate this Fashionista’s outfit? When shopping for a pair of neutral jeans, look for small details in order to make them noticeable. Collars are also huge this season. Make people look in envy by adding a unique touch with your shirts. A pair of comfortable and stylish loafers can make or break an outfit, make sure to find a good quality pair that won’t lessen the value of an outfit. If there’s one thing to splurge on, it’s a fab pair of shoes.
