Fashionista Spotlight

Typically, the the rules of fashion tell us to avoid blacks with brown. Now, if you’re a rule follower then you most likely agree with this. However, if you like to bend the rules like I do then you can see the beauty of the two neutrals together. My hope is that after my fellow Fashionistas read this post, and look to this week’s Fashionista for inspiration, you’ll all see how this fashion no-no is much more of a fashion do!

Name: Maria Sinagra

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing on this very cold D.C. day?

Maria Sinagra: I’m wearing a black turtleneck sweater from Zara with a necklace I borrowed from my roommate. My leggings are from Urban Outfitters and my combat boots are from a small boutique in London. To top it off, I’m wearing a light brown leather jacket from a boutique in Argentina.

CF: You’re a Miami native! So tell us, if you were back home right now what would you be wearing?

MS: If I were home, I would definitely be wearing shorts or nice jeans with a crop top, tank or maybe even a dress. Something with Converse or boots because I like outfits to be simple yet edgy.

CF: What’s your favorite thing to wear in the winter?

MS: I love leather jackets, they’re so rocker chic and easy to wear with anything. I didn’t wear them a lot in Miami, but now I’m wearing one practically everyday.

CF: How do you make blacks with brown work in your wardrobe?

MS: If you’re going to wear browns with black, my thinking is to wear all black and a hint of brown or vice versa. You have to have something that stands out or pops!

How To: My favorite part of this outfit is most definitely her studded clutch! This Fashionista’s is MICHAEL by Michael Kors, but if you’re on a college budget try these from Forever 21 or NASTY GAL.
