There are many people, places or even random objects that can inspire one’s style. Whether it’s a fashion editor like Julia Sarr-Jamois, a fashion blogger or a celebrity like Chloë Sevigny, inspiration can be drawn from a variety of different people. Today’s Fashionista is inspired by a quirky celebrity who has the best bangs in Hollywood—Zooey Deschanel. I can’t lie; I am very tempted to get a haircut similar to hers once mine grows out. Through this Fashionista’s smooth bun, bright messenger bag and cute top, the inspiration is clear.
Name: Maria Esteban
Year: Fifth Year
CollegeFashionista: First of all, I love your top! Did you actually get it in Paris?
Maria Esteban: No, I got it in Spain at Zara. There is one in Boston on Newbury Street I think. And I bought it like a month ago, so it probably will be at the store if you want to get it!
CF: If you could go shopping in any city for one day, which one would it be and why?
ME: I think it would be New York. I’ve never been there, but for me, it is like the quintessential city. I would probably choose [New York City because I am] influenced by the show Sex and the City and the awesome style of Carrie Bradshaw. I hope that I will go to New York before I go back to Spain!
CF: How would you describe your style?
ME: I think I am quite natural. In fact this morning, I was going to work. I work in a laboratory, so I have to be proper and comfortable but I can be somewhat informal. I like to be daring with transparent [fabrics], gauze and mixing colors. I always love to wear something flashy, as a spark that harmonizes my clothes (like my yellow bag). I think that this and a really good hairstyle encapsulate my style.
CF: Where do you look for style inspiration?
ME: I love fashion magazines, like Vogue, Elle and Cosmopolitan. Actually I follow them on Facebook. It is cheaper than buying them! And I am addicted to hellogiggles.com! I love Zooey Deschanel’s style.
CF: What is one thing you would never be caught wearing?
ME: Something with leopard print, I hate it!
How To: To achieve this cute and quirky look, wear this Paris T-shirt with a cute black skirt to stay cool in the heat. This skirt from NASTY GAL is not only adorable, but also reminds me of Ms. Deschanel’s style. Add a colorful messenger bag, some classic white high-tops and you’ll be set for work or class. Put your hair in a sock bun for the final touch!
