Fashionista Spotlight

Today’s Fashionista is not only an expert at finding deals online, but she knows how to find that happy medium between comfortable and girly. I was heading to class when I caught a glance of her floral backpack and I knew I just had to get her advice on trends, her style inspiration and her love for anything Korean.

Name: Maria Chavez

Major: Political Science

Year: Junior

CollegeFashionista: Tell me about what you are wearing.

Maria Chavez: I received this denim jacket as a present two years ago for Christmas . I got this black dress from Papaya and the shoes came from Mexico. I got this ring at a flea market for a dollar and my backpack I ordered it online from eBay.

CF: Where do you get your style inspiration from?

MC: My style inspiration comes from watching Korean dramas to browsing the web. I have always been influenced by what the main characters wear in those dramas.

CF: How has your style change throughout the years?

MC: When I was younger, I wanted to wear everything that I saw advertised in magazines. Nowadays it’s more about the comfort yet looking fashion-foward.

CF: What is your favorite accessory item?

MC: My favorite accessory would have to be a bag because of the range of choices available. Anything that is considered a bag, such as a purse or backpack and if it looks unique, then I will buy it without thinking twice.

CF: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

MC: I would have to say Seoul, South Korea because the people there are always super trendy. I like how they are always up for trying new trends and most of the youth there looks fashionable whether they are a guy or girl. Aside from fashion, I enjoy watching Korean dramas and eating Korean food when I get the chance. My hopes are to one day visit and learn more about their culture.

CF: What advice could you give to our Fashionista/os who are on a college budget?

MC: Clearance section is your best friend! Don’t always follow trends because it is not meant for everybody. Just wear whatever feels natural to you.

How To: To look girly and feel as comfy as today’s Fashionista, make sure to wear your favorite black dress and a pair of oxford shoes. Add the denim jacket to your ensemble to achieve that laid back appeal. If you are looking for something with a grungy feel then add a leather jacket instead. To add the finishing touches to this look, add on a bedazzled ring to your finger and a floral backpack. Thanks to today’s Fashionista, you too can be comfortable and girly at the same time!
