During the week you will see tourists dressed in loud New York paraphernalia, men and women in crisp business attire and the Fashionistas/os who know their way around New York City’s street style. You can find all of these characters enjoying Chelsea Market. There is a constant flow of delicious snacks in addition to pop up stores and sample sales attracting all types of foodies and Fashionistas/os. Feeding my inner appetite for fashion and treats, I wandered around exploring.
This week I was fortunate to run into a former Style Guru in the market. A recent graduate, this Fashionista is at her dream job working for TOMS. She is representing her company in style with both the signature classic canvas shoe and new eyewear. In addition to working at TOMS, she makes her own jewelry, like the necklace she is wearing. Taking the fashion world by storm, she has her own business on Etsy. I had to ask this Fashionista if she had any advice regarding style and becoming successful after college!

CollegeFashionista: Is there any fashion item you always have with you?
Maggie Eaton: I carry about three different pairs of sunglasses in my purse at all times during the summer!
CF: What do you normally wear to work?
ME: Toms is very casual. I wear colored pants a lot and either a cotton button-down or something fun! I wear maxi skirts all day, every day.
CF: Do you have any words of wisdom for students pursing a career in fashion?
ME: Do as many internships as you can. Always take something away from any experience you have. Find a role model and learn from him or her and try to model your own work ethic after them.
How To: During the summer, sometimes you need something lightweight but still put together. To get this Fashionista’s fresh and professional look, pair a modest length skirt with a loose-fitted button-down. By adding a fancy business-like bottom with a toned down top it allows you to look more refined and respectable in a joint fashion and corporate world. A little pattern play is both appropriate and fun such this combo of lace and polka-dots. So keep looking professional Fashionistas, your closets say a lot about you!
