Although I am not a fan of walking to class in the freezing cold, there are definitely some perks that come with this frigid season. As November turns to December and the holidays are finally here, I’m overjoyed that I can wear all things gold, sparkly and gleaming. ‘Tis the season to add extra shine to your hair and shimmer to your makeup and nails, too. While I’m not busy studying to secure lovely grades at the end of the semester (or watching Christmas movies), chances are you can find me hunting State Street for glitzy holiday apparel. When I saw this Fashionista, a gleaming beacon of light, I knew I had to discuss my love for holiday style with her. Her classy, on-trend ensemble exemplifies this season perfectly, making her a Fashionista that I just had to spotlight!
Name: Madalyn Manzeck
Major: Textile and Apparel Design with a concentration in apparel
CollegeFashionista: Can you tell us a bit about what you’re wearing today?
Madalyn Manzeck: I’m wearing an Akira Chicago jacket, Express jeans, Michael Kors boots, Tory Burch earrings, a watch from Charming Charlie, Ray-Ban sunglasses and a Marino Oralandi bag. I actually found this bag at a thrift store for just $6. It retails for $300! This is probably my favorite thing in my wardrobe because I scored such a deal on it.
CF: What will you be wearing to your Thanksgiving festivities?
MM: Normally I like to wear a dress for Thanksgiving. I like wearing maroon around this time of year because I think it’s the perfect fall color.
CF: What are you thankful for this year?
MM: I’m especially thankful for my family. Once you’re away at college, you understand how great a home cooked meal and sleeping in your own bed are.
CF: Which stores will you be hitting up on Black Friday?
MM: I like to go to the mall and hit up H&M and Forever 21 for the cheap deals.
CF: Do you have any holiday season style advice for other Fashionistas/os?
MM: Magazines and those in the fashion industry typically say “these are the trends this season.” However, I think you should do what you want. If you want to wear all sparkles, do it! You shouldn’t care about what other people think.
How To: To create a classic yet stylish look, simply follow this Fashionista’s lead. Begin with dark wash jeans and a tailored black coat. Bold accessories are a huge part of this look, so opt for a go-to chunky watch and simplistic dangly earrings, both in gold. Choose a timeless handbag and tall leather boots in the same color leather to create a sense of unity. To complete the look, toss on a pair of sleek sunglasses and a basic scarf to stay warm. This glamourous, put-together ensemble is sure to turn heads while strutting around campus!
