Does anyone else have the problem of having absolutely nothing to wear? Every girl (or guy) has had those hopeless moments, standing in front of a closet full of clothes, claiming they have nothing to wear. It’s easy to get tired of the same old wardrobe season after season. We may have lots of clothes, but it’s only socially acceptable to wear one quarter of our collection at once, due to “seasonal” fashion. But is it really? One of the great things about late spring is that Mother Nature is still a little indecisive, so you can get away with rocking a cool jacket that you might otherwise save for the fall. This Fashionista proves that jackets and fall prints aren’t exclusively for fall. A sophomore at Stonehill college, this Fashionista was spotted wearing a sundress, a typical summer staple, paired with a dark denim jacket. Dark colors don’t have to be off-limits for the summertime, as long as the actual clothing items are still summertime apparel, like sundresses or crop tops. Paired with aviators and chic leather sandals, this look is perfect for an outdoor concert.
Name: Loren Kelly
College Fashionista: What is your favorite trend this summer?
Loren Kelly: High-waisted shorts, tank tops and sandals.
CF: You live in New York and go to school in Massachusetts, how does the way people dress vary between these two locations?
LK: People in New York care more about how they dress. At home, people don’t care how cold it is, we will still wear tights and a dress. But in Massachusetts, people wear sweats and UGGs everyday.
CF: What’s the worst fashion faux pas someone could make?
LK: Wearing complete opposites. Like UGGs and shorts, or sweats and flip-flops. Like no.
How To: It’s so easy to get caught up in the bright, neon summer colors out there, but don’t shy away from darker shades. Darker colors are sophisticated for nighttime and remain flirty and fun when incorporated into a fun romper. Nights can be chilly despite the heat of the summer day, so a denim jacket is perfect for nights spent outdoors. They’re a definite staple for practically any season, and go with absolutely anything. They’re like your favorite jeans, but in a new way!
