Summer nights are the perfect time for a dress, and the perfect summer dress includes a high-low hemline. High-low dresses are the flirtatious younger sister of the maxi dress. The hemline allows summer breezes to catch the back of the dress, sending it to flow behind you with each step you take. I spotted this Fashionista while enjoying a warm afternoon. I have been noticing the use of high-low hemlines in many designers’ summer collections and love the ability for the look to go both casual and formal. Like many of the Fashionistas/os I have spotlighted this summer, this Fashionista is using the easiness of summer to her advantage.
Name: Loren Ferreira
Major: Exercise Science
CollegeFashionista: Where do you find your style inspiration?
Loren Ferreira: I don’t really know where I get my inspiration exactly. I don’t read magazines or like to pay attention to “what is in.” I just like walking into a store and seeing what catches my eye. I am a true fan of cute… but comfortable.
CF: What is your favorite item you own?
LF: My favorite article of clothing are all of my SHOES! I love anything from sandals to heels to Nike tennis shoes, and I am consistently wearing multiple different pairs of shoes within one day.You can just never have enough shoes.
CF: What is your favorite thing about summer clothing?
LF: Summer clothing is my favorite because it is comfortable and loose fitting… showing skin can be an accessory.
How To: I love how this Fashionista coordinated her toenail color with her dress. As a lover of nail polish, I constantly find myself choosing an outfit only if it will fit with my current nail color. Try wearing a bright printed or an ombré high-low dress and pairing it with Essie’s summer 2013 collection for your digits. The high-low hemline of this type of dress is the compromise between the fun of a summer dress and the elegance of a full maxi dress. This Fashionista kept her look fun by keeping accessories at a minimum. Her belt helps to break up the stripes of the dress, and her leather purse with fringe is not overbearing.
