Fashionista Spotlight

Launching into the spring semester, we’ve observed many students on campus lightening their clothing layers and opting for darling peacoats and assorted boots ranging from the combat to the riding. While we sometimes marginalize the importance of these accoutrements, this Fashionista has booted out the other options, and has taken hers to the next level. With a stylish and sleek peacoat dichotomized with embroidered cowboy boots, this Fashionista effortlessly integrated an adorable southern charm with a casual professionalism that made for the perfect outfit.

Name: Lisa Kao

Major: Business Honors

Year: Junior

CollegeFashionista: How would you define your personal style?

Lisa Kao: My personal style…I’m not sure I could define it! On some days, I try going for the casual, sweet, girl-next-door look (since I really love floral prints), and on some nights I’ll go for an edgier look, like a black leather jacket paired with red lipstick. My style is really just whatever I’m feeling.

CF: What are you wearing and where is it from?

LK: I am wearing a jacket from Michael Kors, pants from Anthropologie, a scarf from Nordstrom and cowboy boots from Allen’s Boots!

CF: If you could dress like any celebrity who would it be and why?

LK: This is a tough one! Miley Cyrus will always be my idol for her shameless, ridiculous style, but I would never ever dress like her. I also have to give a shout out to my girl, Beyonce, but I would not even try to dress like her. Imagine me trying to dress like Beyonce (cue laughter). I do like how Zooey Deschanel dresses — simple, big patterns and color blocking — but I wouldn’t necessarily relate my own personal style to hers.

CF: How has being in college influenced your style choices?

LK: I’ve really admired how many unique styles we have here on campus! I pick up a lot of my style from my friends or even just random people I see walking on the street. For instance, this whole infinity scarf craze — I started seeing girls donning the infinity scarf around campus last year and convinced myself that adding a few to my wardrobe was a necessity!

CF: What are your favorite pieces in your closet right now?

LK: My favorite pieces are always changing, but they currently include: my new black leather booties, my cropped black leather jacket, my tribal printed pants and my white knitted infinity scarf!

How To: Take note from this Fashionista by pairing a peacoat with a solid pair of colored jeans and a pair of chocolate brown or cognac riding boots to complete the final look. However, if you’re looking for a more southern style, I’d highly recommend checking into buying a nice and comfortable pair of cowboy boots!
