Color blocking is nothing new in the fashion world, but it’s one trend that’s not going anywhere anytime soon. It’s a style that can be flattering on anybody, and allows for a lot of creativity as well as mixing and matching. I spotted this Fashionista after class wearing a high-waisted skirt, dressed up with some trendy accessories, and I couldn’t help but stop and ask her about her ensemble.
Name: Lindsay Sierra
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?
Lindsay Sierra: The top and the little satchel are from H&M and the skirt is from Target! My shoes are from Old Navy and my flower watch is from Urban Outfitters.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
LS: I try to keep it simple! Clean lines, a big fan of color blocking, and almost every bottom I own is high-waisted. But I also try to add little quirks to my outfits, to keep things from getting too boring.
CF: Where are your favorite places to shop?
LS: When my bank account allows it, I love Urban Outfitters and Francesca’s. But when I’m feeling more practical I shop at H&M and Forever 21!
CF: If you could raid anyone’s closet, whose would it be?
LS: I think Zooey Deschanel! She has such a unique and quirky style. She’s found the perfect balance of incorporating interesting pieces without making her outfits too bizarre!
CF: Which item in your closet is currently your favorite?
LS: Right now, my favorite piece in my closet is this beautiful tapestry crop top from Urban Outfitters. It’s well constructed, and has these nice autumn colors like maroon, black and hunter green. I love the way I feel when I’m wearing it, it’s sophisticated while remaining youthful. I’m just waiting for the perfect time to wear it!
How To: To mirror this Fashionista’s color style, try mixing together some of your favorite solids until you find a combination that’s flattering on you. Also, try adding an interesting bag, such as a small messenger, as Lindsay does. As the weather gets colder outside, try adding some textured tights and booties to your outfit or switching out the skirt for some colored pants!
