Fashionista Spotlight

With holidays, birthdays and special occasions all around us, there is always a reason to buy a gift. When you’re in college and without a car, this can pose quite a challenge. Enter the greatest invention since sliced breadonline shopping. With online shopping you can virtually order a gift for someone without ever having to change out of your pajamas. This Fashionista shared with me that her entire outfit was ordered online down to her TOMS shoes. While this Fashionista stuck with the basics when shopping online and opted to purchase light wash boyfriend jeans and a white quarter-sleeve blouse to create a perfect neutral color scheme, shopping online can also be the perfect place to experiment. Read on to find out how this Fashionista utilizes online shopping!

Name: Lauren Timlin

Year: Freshman

Major: General Business

CollegeFashionista: What is your biggest rule when online shopping?

Lauren Timlin: I try to never buy something online unless I’ve bought from that store before. When you’re shopping online, you obviously aren’t trying on the clothes beforehand so it’s easier to shop from a store where you have some frame of reference for sizing already.

CF: Who are your online fashion idols?

LT: I love reading Cupcakes and Cashmere by Emily Schuman because her site is entertaining and her outfits are always a mixture of classic and edgy.

CF: What is your favorite thing about shopping online?

LT: I never have to leave bed! I can order almost anything I want from anywhere in the world without having to go through the trouble of actually searching for it in a store. With sites like Amazon, I can buy my dad a toolbox for Christmas at the same time I buy my sister new Steve Madden shoes.

CF: What is on your fashion wish list for 2014?

LT:  A pair of combat boots!

How To: When shopping online, it might be best to stick with stores you know. But you can definitely experiment with what you buy. Step outside your comfort zone by trading in your boyfriend jeans for patterned cropped trousers and dress up a pair of TOMS shoes with closed toe wedge heels. Throw on a pom pom beanie and you have an easy, playful look that you bought without leaving your dorm!
