A brilliant mind in the fashion industry once said, “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” Okay, maybe it was just a fictional Anna Wintour inspired character from the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada, but she’s still right. Factoring in florals to your fashion formula during the springtime is overdone and expected. If you want to wear florals the right way, you either have to slip on this Alexander McQueen dress made of silk and fresh flowers or incorporate another eye-catching element into the mix. This Fashionista chose the latter and flaunted a floral dress with a geometric twist.
Name: Lauren Schofield
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where did you get it?
Lauren Schofield: I’m wearing a dress from an antique store called Father & Son, Vans Sk8-His and Cheap Monday sunglasses. The belt is just some sash I’ve had lying around forever. I wear it all the time.
CF: What kind of look do you normally go for?
LS: Definitely rougher. I like edgy stuff, but I also like stuff that’s really feminine and high-waisted. And I like piercings, ripped clothes, but I also like to wear dresses all the time.
CF: Where do you like to shop?
LS: Whenever I’m in Raleigh, I go to Father & Son Antiques because you can always find unique stuff there. It’s a fun place to explore and spend a lot of time in. Luckily, I’ve been able to get a lot of great jeans from Madewell, which has pretty much solved the whole finding-denim-that-fits issue, which is a struggle that I think everyone goes through.
CF: What would be your fantasy splurge item if you could buy anything?
LS: Probably some Rachel Comey boots because I know I would wear them all the time. I guess I could save up for that, but I really don’t have the restraint at this point in time.
CF: If you could trade closets with anyone, who would it be and why?
LS: Solange Knowles. Have you seen the video for “Losing You?” I want to wear everything in that video. She’s just generally great.
How To: This look is simple and perfect for the springtime. Start off with a fun spring number like this flowery lace dress from Anthropologie. Add a belt or find creative alternatives like this Fashionista did—men’s neckties, guitar straps or even rope! This Fashionista’s Vans Sk8-His gave her outfit a sporty appeal. Finish off this look with a pair of sunglasses. These cat eye sunnies by Prada or these Jackie Ohhs by Ray-Ban should do the trick.
