Even if the weather is rainy and cold, don’t let it cramp your style! Cooler weather means it is time to bundle up and wear darker colors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add something fun and unexpected to your look. This Fashionista uses cheerful stripes and a fun bow tie to give her a retro look that is full of energy on an overcast day.
Name: Lauren Newman
Major: English Education
CollegeFashionista: What are some of your pieces to wear during the fall?
Lauren Newman: Scarves, absolutely. And it sounds weird, but I like wearing pants because I’m so used to wearing shorts and stuff during the summer that it is a nice change. And I love my bow tie! But I love my scarves and that sort of thing . . . leggings for sure!
CF: Where do you draw inspiration from when you are getting dressed in the morning?
LN: I usually look at pictures on Pinterest once in a while. Just whatever I see around, if I see something I like I will try to draw inspiration from that. I just kind of go off what I like when I see other people wearing something or looking really put together.
CF: If you could have anyone in the world’s wardrobe, whose would it be?
LN: Oh gosh, that’s so hard! I really like pinup girls, so probably Marilyn Monroe or Betty Page. Maybe, that sounds weird, but yah!
How To: If you want to add a quirky or retro element to your look, moderation is key. Let a striped button-down peek out from under a simple yet interesting sweater. Dark colored jeans can balance out the brighter colors along with neutral toned shoes. And most importantly, don’t forget to grab a whimsical bow tie before you head out the door!
