It’s not quite April Fool’s Day yet, but Mother Nature sure is playing tricks on us lately. In the Midwest, you never know what you’re going to get. One day it might be 14 degrees and snowing, while the very next day it’s sunny and nearly 50 degrees. Today’s Fashionista shows us just the way to outsmart the weather’s unpredictability.
Name: Lauren Meyer
Major: Communication Studies and Political Science
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Lauren Meyer: I am wearing jeans from Banana Republic, a white chiffon top I got at a boutique back home, orange snakeskin print flats from Nordstrom Rack, a gold Michael Kors watch, a silver Tiffany & Co. bracelet and a black and white striped kate spade tote bag.
CF: Being from California, what is one piece of fashion advice you wish you knew coming into college?
LM: I wish I would have known that you don’t need as many coats as you think. I originally brought a ton of coats, but you don’t need that many because you actually only wear one or two.
CF: How are your style choices different in the Midwest than in California?
LM: Well, at home I will wear a lot more jeans with flats, but here I usually wear more leggings with boots because they are a little warmer.
CF: What is your favorite season to dress for?
LM: I like the fall because you can choose from a variety of outfits. In the fall, your choices are not so restricted by the weather. You don’t have to layer nearly as much. Instead, you can wear either flats or boots. Or you can wear a three-quarter length shirt or short sleeves.
CF: What brand best describes your style?
LM: Banana Republic because they have clothing that is appropriate for living in both the Midwest and California. Also, I appreciate Banana Republic’s typically conservative and mature pieces.
CF: If you could splurge on one item, regardless of the cost, what would it be?
LM: A Nixon watch.
How To: To get this look, start with a lightweight, flowy blouse like this chevron one from Francesca’s. Next, add a pair of dark wash skinny jeans and some simple flats. Finally, every college student’s outfit isn’t completely without a spacious tote or handbag like this navy one from Gap.
