FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Lani Farley

Fashionista Spotlight

Nothing warms up a chilly winter day more than a soft honey ombré against a luxurious soft grey wool coat on an all-darks outfit. Lani was crossing Red Square (my favorite Fashionista/o lookout point) and while the photo doesn’t capture its movement this fantastic winter coat picked up some of Bellingham’s wind and literally swept across campus. Taking a closer look you’ll see that none of her pieces were overly complicated or constricted. Everything fits flawlessly together and she looks both comfortable and chic.

Name: Lani Farley

Major: Communication with minors in Journalism and Psychology

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today and where is it all from?

Lani Farley: My jacket is Nine West; I believe I got it from Goodwill a few years ago. My scarf is from Value Village. If you couldn’t tell, I am a bit of a thrift store junkie. My dress is by Max Studio and my striped button down is from KNT. The tights are by Anne Klein and the shoes and bag are from Target.

CF: Question asked by the last Fashionisto, Yusuf Sadaat: What do you wear when you need to look extra fresh?

LF: Layers, layers, layers. Mixing prints and different layers can make the most basic pieces come to life. One of my favorite combinations is floral, stripes and plaid.

CF: What colors do you like to wear in the winter?

LF: Jewel tones can add a lot of interest to an outfit during the gray winter months. Combining jewel tones together can make basic blacks and neutrals really pop.

CF: What’s your favorite piece in your closet?

LF: On my most recent excursion to Goodwill I found this vintage black beaded blazer. Since it’s black I can pair it with almost any piece but the beading makes any outfit feel so glamorous.

CF: What song do you have on repeat right now?

LF: Billion Dollar Bills by Lorde.

How To: A well-structured, soft grey, woolen overcoat like this one or this one will help recreate the general outfit Lani had on today. Keep the focus on the coat by wearing basic black and grey pieces underneath such as this charcoal grey knit dress and fantastic pair of black booties. A big, black, leather bag blends in seamlessly with any cute outfit but it also holds everything you need for a busy day on campus.
