FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Kylie Basset

Fashionista Spotlight

Back in the day, hunter green was the color of camouflage and the military. In today’s fashion world, it’s evolved into a show-stopping stand-out, and it’s right on target. This Fashionista proves just how versatile this of-the-moment hue can be by pairing it with wine-colored accessories. Forget blending in, because from the streets of Spain to the glossy pages of magazines, hunter green jackets are calling for the spotlight; but don’t worry, nothings going to be shooting at this look but a camera!

Name: Kylie Basset

Major: Visual Communications

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: What three words best describe your style?

Kylie Basset: Feminine, minimal and vintage.

CF: What’s your favorite look to rock during the fall?

KB: Fall style is my favorite. I love the casual layers, muted colors and cozy scarfs that come with the season. Currently one of my favorite outfits includes my high-waisted dark skinnies, denim shirt, oversized military jacket, scarf and boots.

CF: If you could raid the closet of any celebrity, who would it be and why?

KB: I would kill to go Bling Ring in several celebrity closets! The Olsens, Kate Moss, and Leighton Meester are at the top of that list. I first fell in love with Leighton’s style as Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl. On screen and off, she is always looking fabulous.

CF: Between statement coats, cat-themed accessories and faux fur, what winter 2013 trend are you most likely to pursue?

KB: As I attempt to endure one last Iowa winter, I plan to keep warm wrapped in a bold statement coat. I’d love a long two-tone pea coat. It may just have to be my next investment!

How To: The most important aspect of this outfit is the chic hunter green jacket. Find a great one that you love and that fits you perfectly, because you’ll definitely be wearing it a lot! I love this Zara jacket with the combination leather. Keep your clothes neutral and subtle: a great pair of skinny jeans and a beige top will let the colors of the outfit do the talking! Throw on a scarf in a rich wine color, like this one from ASOS. Bonus points if you can find matching socks to look great from head to foot…literally! And lastly, don’t forget the footwear ladies. A sturdy pair of brown leather booties are style staples and will tie into virtually any fall or winter outfit you can dream of!
