Chuck Taylor’s was the quintessential shoe to give “cool” status in middle school. They were fun and had different colors that could say a lot about your personality. But by high school, they weren’t as common. As I was struggling with the tempestuous hills at Texas State, I stumbled across a Fashionista with not only amazing hair, but an outfit that was equal parts trendy and sporty. But more than anything she was wearing the shoes that had given me a conversation starter with my first crush. Nostalgia soon kicked in and I immediately called my mother to ship me my old friends.
Name: Kiana Fitzgerald
Major: Print Journalism
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Kiana Fitzgerald: The awesome fox shirt is from Papaya, a jacket I bought from Ross (because I am sensible), socks from Rue Lala and my shoes from Converse. I forgot to name the specs of my accessories. . .bracelet is from a boutique in my hometown, Seguin. Watch is from Karmaloop, an online urban clothing store. Earrings from Charlotte Russe. Ring from my mommy!
CF: Converse is almost an extinct shoe on campus, how did you manage to make your pair look so stylish?
KF: I try to pair my Converse with the right outfit. And even more specific, with the right socks. I genuinely feel that socks make the shoes, which in turn make the outfit. This entire outfit culminated from a dark, yet happy, place. I tried to keep the dark theme consistent throughout every element of my outfit, from the jacket to the shirt to the jeans to the socks. It was only natural that I top it off with the black monochrome low-top Converse.
3. CF: Could you tell us more about your jewelry?
KF: Essentially since I began my collegiate career, my obsession with the perfect accessories began. I’ve come to a place now [as a senior] where I can recognize what makes me look good and what makes me feel like me. I love my skin tone, and I’ve finally realized what complements me: gold! It all started with a ring that my mother gave me when I was about 16 or 17 years old. It’s a gold ‘K’ encircled by a heart. I wear it everyday. I’ve essentially built my current jewelry collection around it. I love gold, and I love how it contrasts with black, so any opportunity I get to pair the two together, I will. And I’m especially in love with my bracelet because the center piece is a lion, which represents my sign of the Almighty Leo.
