The semester is quickly coming to an end, which means we are all forced to dress up and give end of semester final presentations. This Fashionista illustrates how effortlessly chic a properly tailored blazer can truly be with just the right accessories. The simplicity and versatility of her look make it so that she can easily go from being perfectly business casual to blending in with the rest of the student body.
Name: Kelly McCamley
CollegeFashionista: Can you tell me about what you are wearing today and where each piece is from?
Kelly McCamley: I am wearing a camel blazer over a cream top with gold accents, black jeggings and black heels. The individual pieces of my outfit came from a variety of different retailers and boutiques. My camel blazer is from Banana Republic and my cream top is from a small boutique called Fred. Both my black jeggings and black heels are from Pitaya.
CF: Who is your style icon?
KM: My style icon is definitely not just one person. My main style inspiration comes from my roommates Jackie, Katie, Dita, Brooke, Alex and Allison. The benefit of having all of these lovely ladies in one apartment is that I can draw my inspiration from them, and they always have the perfect pieces, whether I am trying to look elegant, preppy or grunge.
CF: What does being fashionable mean to you?
KM: Being fashionable means expressing yourself. It is not always replicating what other people are wearing. It is putting your own unique spin on an outfit that sets it apart from the rest.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
KM: My personal style is feminine grunge, specifically clothing from Dry Goods. You will often find me in dark skinny jeans with an oversized shirt or sweater. My favorite pieces of clothing are my various leather jackets and sundresses that I am finally able wear now that the weather has warmed up.
CF: What summer trend are you most excited about?
KM: All the brightly colored swimming suits on the beach, of course!
How To: This Fashionista incorporates items that should be staples in any college student’s closet. The best place to start is with a well-tailored blazer in a non-seasonal neutral. Black skinny jeans or jeggings are the perfect solution to the college-aged “what is business casual?” dilemma. They make it easy to go from lecture, to presentations, to everything in-between. Layering in a detailed cream top is always a great option because it makes the look professional, yet trendy. The additions of classic black pumps and gold accent jewelry complete the look. A great way to make this look you own would be the addition of a chunky gold watch.
