During the school year, staying comfortable is a common goal for many Fashionistas and Fashionistos. Figuring out how to do so without looking like a hot mess may be a struggle for others; however, this Fashionista shows us how to be comfortable while looking fashionable, even on stress-filled days.
Name: Kelly Gesswein
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?
Kelly Gesswein: I would say my personal style is glamorous with a twist of trendiness and a touch of bling! I like to mix styles, but I always want to look fabulous, put together and presentable. Anything pink and/or sparkly is a must-have for me!
CF: What/Who are your style inspirations?
KG: I love the style of the ’40s and ’50s, but I try to modernize it – like staying classy by keeping your head, heels and standards high. I am inspired by Rachel Zoe, Lilly Pulitzer, Beyoncé, Kate Middleton, Kat Von D and Ke$ha! I also love anything and everything Maryland flag print.
CF: How would you describe your perfect summer outfit?
KG: My perfect summer outfit is comfy, cute and girly and can keep me calm, cool and collected in the hot Baltimore sun. Of course, sunglasses are always a must! I love sundresses with flip flops and a hot pink pedicure; however, I frequently rock shorts and a tank.
CF: Does being in a sorority change your sense of style?
KG: I don’t think it changed my sense of style, but it definitely expanded my outlook on college fashion. Since I went to private school, I was used to wearing a uniform and only had party clothes and yoga pants. I’ve found that you can make yoga pants look cute if you accessorize them correctly. For recruitment, we have outfits that blend well together and yet still show each of our personalities and styles. With so many styles and opinions in the house, it’s really easy to put together a chic outfit for a school presentation or interview. Each sister has her own unique style, and it’s really cool to see the different clothes we all bring to the house! It’s like a huge shopping mall, and we raid each other’s closets.
How To: When you have a long day of classes, followed by sorority duties, it is key to be dressed for the occasion. This Fashionista rocks a layered tank with floral denim. She accessorizes her relaxed look with amazing sandals and a necklace. She tops off her look with school/state pride sunglasses.
