I noticed this Fashionista because of her denim capris that had large tears that went up to her thigh. What struck me more, however, was how she paired the intensity of the bottom part of her outfit with a simple loose sleeveless white top with light orange detail. Her accessories — pastel oxford shoes, aviator sunglasses, a large watch, dangling earrings and a pretty backpack — were likewise understated and sweet. The combination of edgy with feminine pieces made for a unique look perfect for spring.

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Katie Mathias: I’m wearing ripped jean capris with a white blouse and lace-up shoes.
CF: How would you describe your style?
KM: I try to go for a boho style, but I’m from the east coast, specifically Baltimore, so I try to throw in things that are big back home. I’ve noticed out here no one wears ripped jeans anymore.
CF: What’s your favorite item in your closet?
KM: I do love my ripped jeans; they go with everything. Also, I have a to die for pair of Jimmy Choo’s. They’re nude and go with everything so you can dress them up or down.
CF: Where do you get style inspiration?
KM: I love Lana Del Rey. I think she has a really unique sense of style. Also, I’m a really big Vogue fan, and I love to look through Seventeen magazine because they give you a really good advice on how to make your own stuff, which I like to do, too. I love adding studs to things.
CF: What’s some style advice you would like to share?
KM: I think fashion is really something that you use to express yourself so you need to make sure to incorporate what you like while paying attention to the trends so it’s not so much imitating someone but expressing yourself.
How To: To achieve this Fashionista’s look, don’t be afraid to combine pieces from different styles. Start with some ripped denim in shade that can be easily paired with other parts of the outfit like these skinny jeans in a classic wash from J Brand. Evoke your bohemian side with an embroidered top, and make sure it’s in a lighter shade to contrast with the dark jeans. Add some glam to your boho edgy look with a pair of large dangly earrings like these from Urban Outfitters.
