It seems like lately I’ve had a serious case of “I have nothing to wear.” It happens to all Fashionistas every now and again. We browse our closets in search of the right outfit and all the clothes hanging there simply aren’t what we’re looking for. It’s all too easy to become bored and uninterested with old garments but it doesn’t have to be this way! In fact, I have an easy fix that is guaranteed to get you excited about your wardrobe again. What’s my secret? Accessories! By adding a statement necklace, scarf, vest or killer shoe you can make an old outfit new again. I found this Fashionista glamming up her simple ensemble with trendy accents.
Name: Katherine Rama
Major: Marketing and information design and corporate communication
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today and where is it from?
Katherine Rama: My sweater is an oldie but goodie — I bought it at Zara around four years ago. My faux fur vest and booties were total steals from Forever 21. My bag and black jeans are both from Urban Outfitters.
CF: Where are some of your favorite places to shop for clothes?
KR: During the winter I find myself obsessing over everything in Zara. They have arguably one of the best coat selections of any store and they also are always on top of new trends, like the famous Zara skort.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
KR: I would say simple but sophisticated, sometimes a little edgy. I definitely cling toward neutrals but I always spice them up with bold accessories or by textured layers, like this vest.
CF: Name the one item in your wardrobe that you couldn’t live without.
KR: The jeans I have on today are my obsession. Although you can’t tell under my long sweater, they are actually high-waisted which makes them extremely versatile. I can wear them to class with a sweater, tuck a collared shirt in for a business casual look or go with a crop top on the weekends.
CF: What are you looking forward to about winter fashion?
KR: I think winter is a time you can really stand out with your fashion choices. Although it may be easy to fall into boring basics, with a little effort you can truly shine. For example, skip the classic black peacoat and find one with an awesome pattern. Embrace winter white instead of fearing judgment. Find the most unique headbands, hats and gloves to keep you warm. Bundling up doesn’t have to mean hiding your fashion sense. How To: Sprucing up “oldies but goodies” with new, trendy accessories is an awesome way to reinvent your wardrobe without replacing the whole thing. Start with classic items you already have in your closet — a neutral sweater and dark skinny jean. Now for the accessorizing! Spice up the outfit with of-the-moment buckled booties, head wrap and shearling vest.
