KO: I wish I could consistently describe it, but it varies day-to-day. Sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. I’m obsessed with simple tees from H&M, so often it’s as basic as one of those tees and jeans or, you guessed, yellow cords. But some days I’m feeling a little more creative, and like to mix and match a girly, ruffled top with some distressed cutoffs or vintage band tees with classy black pointed-toe flats. It really changes based on how I’m feeling, what I have going on and, let’s be honest, what’s clean. I get style inspiration everywhere–Tumblr, blogs I follow such as Cupcakes and Cashmere or Eva Chen 212, other students I see around campus and of course, the old classic, magazines.
Exam week is usually a time when sweatpants and T-shirts are abundant and style is lacking. This Fashionista shows how easy it is to rock a classic look when it’s tempting to dress down. Her bright yellow pants can make any study day holed up in the library a little less dreary.

CollegeFashionista: Tell me about what you’re wearing.
Katherine Owen: I’m wearing my absolute favorite yellow cords and a cream crocheted top. The tank is an oldie but goodie I’ve broken out for the past several summers. And even though they’re corduroy, and Alabama is hot, I plan to keep on sporting my favorite pants into the summer months. The bracelet and watch are daily staples–I feel so lost without both of them! (As you can tell, I play favorites big time with my wardrobe).
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
CF: What spring trends are you mostly looking forward to styling?
KO: I plan on spending as much time as possible outside this summer, so I definitely want to get some statement sunnies. Cat-eye, jeweled or nerd-chic–with all the options I don’t think you can have too many. I also am currently obsessed with my jean cutoffs, but want to invest in a few new pairs of shorts for the summer, maybe some tailored ones, and another linen pair. I really want to find a way to make a long, flowy skirt work for me. I adore the summery boho look, but I have short legs, so I’ve been looking for the perfect breezy skirt lately.
CF: What do you normally wear to class?
KO:I tend to spend all day on campus most days, so I try to strike the balance between comfortable, playful and even little funky. If I’m resorting to the H&M T-shirts, I try to incorporate bright colors and louder accessories. I also like pieces that can speak for themselves, for example, with the crochet detail on my top today, I don’t feel like I have to add a necklace. For cooler days, I’m all about pairing a gingham or chambray button-down with a slouchy sweater or my favorite not-so-slouchy sweatshirt.
