When it comes to early morning classes, we can safely assume a majority of students are not the biggest fans. Quite frankly, who can blame them? Whether it’s because of a late night prior to or the dreadful cold weather biting your face while walking to class, there’s often an understandable reason why not to be eager about getting dressed in the morning.
This Fashionista woke up on the right side of the bed bright and early, and her outfit speaks for it. Pairing a textured olive chiffon dress with more durable pieces — like her leather booties — allows for a seasonal blend of items that make her outfit not only adorable but also very appropriate for the weather at hand. Who wouldn’t be in a good mood feeling this comfortable and chic at eight a.m.?
Name: Kalyn Oyer
Major: Public Relations
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing today?
Kalyn Oyer: I am wearing a Forever 21 hat and jacket, a dress from Belk, Kmart shoes (believe it or not), Guess glasses and a pocket watch necklace that I picked up at the Portobello Market in London.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
KO: I would describe my personal style as eclectic with a girly edge. I like to balance harsher accents — like leather and studs — with softer items such as a dress. Occasionally, I’ll throw thrift store pieces into the mix whenever I can to achieve a vintage vibe.
CF: Have you noticed a change in your style since being in college?
KO: Definitely — freshman year, I used to have a super short, bob-like hairstyle which was styled with an abundance of flower clips every day. Now, I’ve realized that I don’t have to wear flowers in my hair to look girly, although I do rock the occasional flower crown when weather permits.
CF: Where/who do you gather your style inspiration from?
KO: I mostly get inspired by the styles I see around me in the real world. Anyone who dresses in Urban Outfitters can hang with me all the time, and perhaps let me raid their closet.
How To: On chillier spring days, layering this look with a light jacket and accessorizing with a panama hat utilizes those cold weather pieces that still look chic this season. As the temperatures warm up, swapping the two items for a denim vest and a fedora lightens the fabric load, as well as helps transition a darker-toned outfit to be more suitable for spring.
