April showers may bring May flowers, but there is no feat a Fashionista cannot beat. One being dressing fashionable despite the inclement weather April may bring. I personally love seeing the trends and styles I spot on spring days that are not so sunny and warm. While some people may await for nicer weather, other Fashionistas sport their favorite styles even on darker days. I met up with this Fashionista on her way to class showing off how to manipulate stylish trends that accompany the rainy weather State College has been experiencing.
Name: Kaitlyn Twombly
Major: Political Science
CollegeFashionista: How do you like to dress for spring?
Kaitlyn Twombly: I love embracing all of the fun and new trends by pairing them with common staples like my pair of rain boots, floral patterns, denim and cardigans.
CF: What was the most defining moment for your style that has made you love fashion?
KT: I have always loved fashion and the idea of dressing up. However, coming to college has made my world of fashion a lot broader by experiencing the various styles and trends of my peers, especially on a campus as big as Penn State. It has helped me truly find my own unique fashion.
CF: While spring is often the season for new trends blooming, what are some styles that stay timeless to you?
KT: I think great style is making fashion unique to you. Several things that I have loved wearing from season to season are a great pair of skinny jeans, fun headbands and lace. I especially love the recent trend of lace bralettes by layering them under blouses and crop tops.
CF: What do you hope your style says about you?
KT: One of my favorite ways to dress is in fun patterns. I love wearing patterned pants because of their bold look. I hope my style represents my outgoing, bubbly personality.
How To: I absolutely love the look of pairing high-waisted denim shorts and tights to show off a comfortable yet chic look, especially on a windy spring day. Find a pair of classic denim or opt for a bolder look by choosing a floral or tribal pattern. What’s great about denim and tights is that the combination can be worn with any type of shirt. Whether it be a classic tee, a trendy graphic or a blouse, you cannot go wrong in making this trend your own. While rain boots are perfect for spring weather, don’t be afraid to throw on your favorite pair of Converse or a stylish pair of booties with this look. Layer up with an oversized cardigan or a fitted jacket. Last but certainly not least, do not be afraid to complement your outfit with accessories! If you are wearing neutrals, choose a statement piece with color like this Fashionista’s emerald green bracelet. Embrace the inevitable April showers coming your way by sporting this style and making it your own!
