This summer has been all about high-waisted bottoms and crop tops. From skirts to shorts to pants, Fashionistas are effortlesssly incorporating the high-waisted trend into their everyday looks. Today’s Fashionista is no exception but I happen to love her take on the popular summer fad. She takes a more modest approach with her high-waisted, slightly vintage-looking jeans and adorable textured crop top. Her top doesn’t expose too much skin but still serves its purpose. This Fashionista also perfectly coordinates her brown gladiator sandals with her stylish brown backpack. While jeans don’t normally scream summer to me, this outfit is perfect for any summer day.

CollegeFashionista: What are your summer staples?
Jovie Trotta: Denim! Cut-offs, overalls, shirts…pretty much denim everything.
CF: What would you never be caught wearing?
JT: I don’t think there are a lot of things that I would absolutely never wear, but probably anything by Ed Hardy.
CF: Where do you look for style inspiration?
JT: Pretty much anywhere. Particularly interesting movies I might see or what I see other girls wearing on the street. And Pinterest!
CF: How would you describe your style in three words?
JT: Simple, feminine and a little bit messy.
CF: What are you looking forward to wearing this fall?
JT: I love pretty much everything about fall fashion. I’m especially excited for leggings, chunky-heeled boots and dark red lipstick.
How To: This look is the perfect mix of retro and modern. Her high-waisted jeans give a nod to the ‘80s while her adorable white crop top has a modern feel. To get this look for yourself, you’ll just need some basic staples. First, find a pair of high-waisted jeans from your local thrift store, your mom’s closet or ASOS. Take a hint from today’s Fashionista and roll them up a bit. Jeans are a staple that you’ll be able to wear year round, so make sure you find a pair that fits well. Next, you’ll need a basic crop top. Check out this Kansas City Eyelet crop top or this simple cropped T-shirt for a more laid back option. For shoes, look for a strappy sandal that will coordinate with your bag of choice. Pair these gladiator sandals with this brown leather backpack and you’ll look just as chic as today’s Fashionista looks!
