There’s no denying that this year’s hottest trend has been vintage clothing. The best part is that these looks are unique, and there are many ways to work with the retro image to accommodate your personal style. I spotted this Fashionista passing through campus in her polka-dot dress and classic red lips. Her outfit is a perfect mix of playful pin-up meets Jackie O.
Name: Josie Yorgason
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your wardrobe?
Josie Yorgason: I’m an explorer when it comes to my wardrobe. If I like it, I rock it. My wardrobe mainly consists of grungy, vintage and feminine pieces.
CF: Where do you find fashion inspiration?
JY: I find inspiration everywhere. When it comes to art, style and aesthetics, I’m like a sponge. Currently, I’m really digging the “thrifty” style. When I thrift, I look for clothing that is similar to styles that are popular, but are different and interesting in their own way.
CF: What is your favorite part of fashion?
JY: I love bending the rules of fashion. When you walk around campus and it feels like everyone is wearing the same thing, they probably are. I like to mix it up to stand out in the crowd. The key is confidence.
CF: What is your go-to summer outfit formula?
JY: Without a doubt my go-to outfit is high-waisted shorts, gladiator sandals, a tank top and my favorite watch.
How To: Getting a vintage look isn’t too hard with the new vintage trends and classic looks hitting the runways again. For the pin-up feel that this Fashionista gives off, a good red lipstick is going to be your best friend, along with bold, yet simple patterns. Find a polka-dot dress with a retro cut, pair it with your favorite flats and keep your accessories simple. An understated leather purse will pull it all together.
