Gearing up for spring break and acclimating to the warmer weather, many students are swapping in their wool head wraps and riding boots for more lightweight combinations of dresses, floppy hats and sandals. This Fashionista, traveling back home to Miami, exemplified this climate transition by wearing a linen, flowing dress paired with an army green jacket and wedges. While the temperatures are rising, this laid-back and effortlessly chic outfit will help you spring forward into the warmer part of the season and prepare for the heat wave expected to hit Austin in the upcoming months.
Name: Joelle Gringarten
Major: Radio, Television and Film
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where is it from?
Joelle Gringarten: My jacket is from Urban Outfitters, my dress is from a local boutique in Phuket, Thailand (it’s so airy and was the perfect buy for summertime) and my shoes are Pelle Moda.
CF: How do your interests influence what you wear?
JG: The majority of my closet is made up of clothing with color. I love buying bold colors and garments because it gives my style a personality of its own. Growing up in Miami made going to the beach and tanning a top summer priority. I love to wear anything that will help show off my sun-kissed glow and tan from the beach, so I usually find myself wearing something flowy and open back. Not to mention, it also helps bring out my boho chic style obsession!
CF: Which celebrity do you think has great style and why?
JG: Blake Lively. Her style is timeless, elegant and sophisticated. She can effortlessly piece together something trendy because she knows what looks best on her.
CF: If you could shop anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
JG: Local boutiques in foreign countries are my absolute favorite places to shop! I love vintage pieces of clothing and jewelry because most of it is one of a kind. You rarely find the same thing at a different foreign boutique and you hardly ever run into someone wearing the same thing as you.
How To: To emulate this Fashionista’s outfit, seek out some linen or cotton dresses and pair them with classic wedges and jacket for a light breeze. If you’re heading to the beach this spring, I would also consider investing in a pair of sunglasses or floppy hat. Once you’ve done that, you’ll be ready to soak up the sun!
