This Fashionista caught my eye in downtown Toronto right next to the Ryerson campus. Her all black layers and platform boots look sleek yet unfinished. With a slight vintage biker style, this Fashionista could easily turn heads or subtly mix into a crowd. There’s no doubt that layers play a key feature in this outfit, as fall is becoming more and more evident. A charcoal acid wash sweater slightly lightens features in the outfit as it’s tucked under a cool leather jacket. Rather than going for a cross-body bag, this Fashionista added a faded backpack to stick with her vintage look.
Name: Jin Yoon
Major: Fashion Design
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?
Jin Yoon: Jin Yoon! I really like wearing black, and I like the whole biker look. I also like colder winter styles, so like longer layers and stuff like that.
CF: What’s one item in your closet that you can absolutely not live without?
JN: I stole my Mom’s dress this summer, and it’s from the ’70s. It’s a long, white and black polka-dot dress.
CF: How does your style change between seasons?
JN: It’s always black, even when it’s summer. I guess the only big difference is the amount of layers.
CF: What are your favorite stores to shop?
JN: In Toronto, I like Queen Street. But these days I’m doing menswear, so everywhere that I’ve been shopping has been for men’s inspiration, mostly down on Queen West. I also really like Value Village and Topshop.
Hint: Interested to try out this look? Begin with a pair of trusty black everyday jeans and add a basic black T-shirt. Find a pair of chunky black boots, or if you want to go for a slightly more delicate style, opt for a pair of Chelsea boots. Add a dark gray sweater and a loved leather jacket to top it all off. Whether hitting the books or wandering around town, a worn backpack is comfortable and handy!
