For many college students, myself included, being on winter break is a time to catch up on sleep and spend time with family and friends. While back at home, it’s easy to find yourself gravitating towards your most comfortable clothes to go along with your well-deserved, relaxing days off. I spotted this Fashionista outside a local coffee shop and knew instantly that I had to take her photo! Her look is a perfect example of how to keep some of your most comfortable outfits stylish. People often resort to sweatpants and sweatshirts to fulfill their desire for a cozy or easy-to-wear outfit. But, there are so many ways to keep an outfit trendy while maintaining the comfort and ease you’re craving. Today’s Fashionista did exactly that!
Name: Jillian Tsacoyeanes
Major: History and International Development Studies (double major)
CollegeFashionista: I love your outfit! What are you wearing?
Jillian Tsacoyeanes: I am wearing a bulky wool sweater over a denim shirt, paired with black leggings and my favorite nude flats. But also, my favorite accessory: a cup of coffee!
CF: What is a staple in your wardrobe?
JT: Denim! Whether it’s a shirt like this one, brightly colored jeans or a classic jacket, I rarely leave the house without some kind of denim. I love finding innovative ways to wear my favorite material.
CF: Who or what inspires your style?
JT: I’m a history major and I’m in love with strong, powerful women. I like wearing outfits that remind me of certain historical eras. One day I’ll try to channel the look of a WWII factory worker, and the next night I’ll be in a roaring ’20s mood and go out in a flapper-inspired dress.
CF: Where are your favorite places to shop?
JT: I love ModCloth and Anthropologie, but on my college student budget, I can usually only afford to hit the sales at those shops. On a more regular basis, I like browsing thrift stores and sometimes even altering my vintage finds at home to make them more current. While it might take a lot of time to find wearable items, they’re cheap and unique!
How To: To rock a similar look, start by investing in a simple, oversized sweater that you can pair with anything from maxi dresses to leggings. Next, a great pair of flats that you can wear day after day is a must. If you take the time to find the perfect pair of ballet flats for your feet, they will become as comfortable as your favorite slippers. In Jillian’s case, her go-to flats are nude-colored, but any neutral tone, such as black or gray, would work great with any outfit!
