Almost every Fashionista/o whom I have spoken to about their personal style has mentioned in one way or another that being comfortable on campus is a priority. To endure a full day of classes and activities I’ve also learned that comfort is key. But there is a difference between looking comfortable and feeling comfortable. You don’t want your daily wardrobe to look like you’re going to the gym right after class. Use this Fashionista as an example and dress your body without it feeling constricted. Her colorful drawstring pants are highlighted by her bright and interesting pieces throughout the outfit. She offsets the deep orange in the pants with a white beaded shirt and gold and white jewelry.
In a book called Parisian Chic by Ines de la Fressange, I recently read about the rules of street style and learned (rather, re-learned) that it’s all about balance. The golden rule: if you wear a tight top, wear a loose bottom and if you wear a loose top, wear a tighter bottom! Aren’t we all just in the pursuit of this Fashionista’s three style descriptions: “comfortable, classic and simple”?
Name: Jessamyn Meneghin
Major: Psychology and Economics
College Fashionista: How would you describe your style in three words?
Jessamyn Meneghin: Comfortable, classic and simple.
CF: What is one trend you are dying to try?
JM: I really want to get a full-length patterned romper. The style is so easy and fun but there is a lot of pattern which would be a lot to handle.
CF: What is one of your favorite pieces in your closet right now?
JM: One of my maxi dresses because they are so light and easy in the summer. The flowy fabric keeps me cool.
CF: What is a go-to outfit for you in the summer and at your internship?
JM: High-waisted shorts and a loose shirt tucked in. I live in sundresses at my finance and marketing internship in NYC. Also pencil skirts, blazers and flats (never heels) for walking around the city!
How To: Achieve this comfy casual look with a great pair of drawstring pants in a bright color. For some sparkle, add a beaded shirt, statement bangle and large watch. Straight and smooth hair is optimal for this outfit and some trusty sandals like this Fashionista’s Jack Rogers pair. Running around campus or the office will be a breeze in these lounge-inspired pants!
