Dressing for class nearly always presents a problem for Fashionistas tired from long nights of studying. While summer offers plenty of fashion inspiration, in reality the heat and humidity of August makes many stylish students take the easy way out. This Fashionista, however, does no such thing. Her loose tank top with a collared detail and casual shorts make for a comfortable but polished look on her first week of classes.
Name: Jennifer Proper
Major: Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Jennifer Proper: I am wearing a pink tank top purchased from Francesca’s. The navy shorts are from J.Crew and the white sandals are from Ralph Lauren. On my wrist I am wearing two bracelets both purchased from Forever 21.
CF: What’s one summer item you can’t wait to wear now that we’re back at school?
JP: I would love to wear my high-low skirt before fall hits campus.
CF: Describe your perfect first day of school outfit.
JP: My perfect back-to-school outfit is a cute navy skirt with a flowy tank top tucked in, completed by a pair of simple sandals.
CF: What colors do you like wearing most in the summertime?
JP: During the summer, I love wearing anything and everything bright. The summer is full of sun and beautiful weather, so why not wear bold, fun colors? In particular, I love the color coral.
CF: What are three items of clothing you simply can’t live without?
JP: Three items of clothing I can’t live without are leggings and yoga pants simply because they are comfy and go with almost anything, statement necklaces that can dress up any outfit and my Old Navy flip flops that are extremely casual and comfortable to wear.
How To: For a going-to-class outfit that’s easy and breezy in the throes of summer heat, start with a brightly colored striped tank top. Complement its loose feel with well-fitted MANGO black denim shorts or this cuffed pair from Joe’s Jeans. Comfortable shoes are a must, so look for sandals with a thick sole. Vogue recently hailed the “pretty ugly” Birkenstock-style sandal as “the summer’s must-have shoe,” so try a girly take on the trend with this pair from Tory Burch. To finish the casual summer look, add a statement necklace or earrings, a cuffed bracelet and the perfect pair of sunglasses.
