Fashionista Spotlight

For me, there’s no classier winter outerwear than a long peacoat. Peacoats give you all the benefits of staying warm while being stylish at the same time. They are perfect to wear to a professional setting, like this Fashionista who wore her peacoat to student teaching, and also with many types of outfits ranging from casual to formal. No matter what your style is, there is a peacoat out there to fit it. They come in many different colors and lengths and many designers have taken the traditional peacoat and put their own spin on it. Though peacoats are originally inspired by sailor coats, they have undergone major transformations over the years and became a staple for Fashionistas and Fashionistos during the cold seasons.

CollegeFashionista: Where is your outfit from?

Jennifer Barry: My jeans are from the Gap. My sweater is from Charlotte Russe. My scarf was a gift and my coat is from JCPenney. My boots are from Macy’s.

CF: Where do you like to shop?

JB: I love Kohl’s. I find so much great stuff there. Plus they have great deals that you can’t beat. I also love New York & Company to find stylish professional clothing for when I’m in the classroom.

CF: What is your favorite item in your closet?

JB: The jeans that I’m wearing right now. As a tall girl, it’s often challenging to find jeans that fit just right. We all know that the perfect jeans can make an outfit and my jeans by Gap always make the outfit.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

JB: Since getting more into my teaching profession, I often find myself seeking out pieces that are more professional. I like to be classy and professional but still youthful and fun.

CF: Who is your favorite designer?

JB: I love Jessica Simpson shoes.

CF: Which celebrity’s style do you love?

Blake Lively! She is tall, like me so I get ideas for how to dress my body from her. Her style is always fun and youthful.

CF: Do you have any tips for staying stylish in the cold weather?

JB: Fun scarves can keep you warm and spice up your outfit.

How To: Start with a basic pair of dark wash skinny jeans. Add to that a simple tank top covered with an open high-low cardigan that is longer in the front. For outerwear, a classic long peacoat will bring the warm and style you’re looking for. Finish off the outfit with a pair of riding boots and you will have the classy professional look that this Fashionista is rocking.
