There is not one particular word that I can use to express how much I love a good romper, or onesie as I dubbed this piece of clothing I rediscovered years ago at Free People. It was a lavender cotton beach romper that I still romp around in, happily pant less. Of course, from being born we’ve all worn a romper in one form or another. But only the trendy babies grow up to revisit this cherished ensemble.
This Fashionista’s go-to summer look is a dress or a romper. She dresses them up or down and slightly transitions to fall with a knotted sweater, a look seen on her today. Her lengthy beaded necklace elongates her torso and accentuates her small frame. The secret weapon in this ensemble is her flatform sandals that give her an extra inch or two in height.
Granted the effortlessness of wearing a romper, this Fashionista takes advantage of the situation and doesn’t stop styling from there. The geometric detailed print of the romper, complete with pom-pom trim, and the laid back, knotted sweater shows the thought behind the whole look. While being comfortable throughout her day, she remains fashionable with a generous hemline flaunting some leg.
Name: Janice Leibman
Major: Retail Management
CollegeFashionista: When did you become interested in fashion and what was your first major fashion moment?
Janice Leibman: I became interested in fashion during my sophomore year of high school. I realized I loved fashion when I made all of the clothes for a recycled fashion show at my camp.
CF: How would you describe your style?
JL: A little bohemian. And a mix of everything. I sometimes wear quirky and weird clothing items but still stay girly.
CF: What is your favorite event to dress for?
JL: Going out to a nice dinner!
CF: What is your favorite item in your closet right now?
JL: All of my rompers! I’ll put a sweater over a romper like today or I’ll belt it and wear it like a one piece.
CF: What is one item you would love to splurge on?
JL: Purses. No, shoes! Steve Madden shoes. Anything with a heel because I’m short.
How To: Get this Fashionista’s look by starting off with a great romper that cinches at the waist to define your shape. Add a loose sweater that you can knot in the corner for a grungy, relaxed effect. Then gain a few inches with these flatform sandals. Lastly, add a long necklace and a black leather hold all bag to tote everything from a calculator to lipstick to extra accessories around campus.
