If there is one misconception about fashion, it is that one can only look as good as an outfit costs. This Fashionista, however, proves that there are many ways to budget your money while purchasing quality pieces and maintaining an excellent sense of style. With a professional and preppy wardrobe and a keen eye for savings, this Business major is more than ready to take college by the storm.
Name: Jamie Cohen
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
CF: What inspires your fashion choices?
JC: I love anything preppy! Heaven is Kate Middleton’s closet. That being said, I still like to make an outfit my own. I love edgy jewelry and statement shoes to complete a classic outfit.
CF: What changes will you make in your wardrobe now that you are entering college?
JC: I definitely have to add dresses! From rushing for sororities to fraternity parties to college formals, all kinds of dresses are a must. Anything floral or seersucker would suffice!
CF: What piece in your wardrobe are you most looking forward to wearing in college?
JC: I just bought this gorgeous lavender blazer from a J.Crew outlet on sale and I am obsessed with it! I am a Business major, so it would be perfect with a black pencil skirt and cute neutral top for an interview or job fair. It is also so versatile! With jeans and a cute printed top, it would be the perfect day look.
CF: How do you save money without sacrificing style?
JC: Never sacrifice quality for affordability! You can still go to all of your favorite places—Banana Republic, Madewell, Anthropologie… but go to the sale racks! I also love outlet shopping since you get all of the brands for less money. Always ask if stores have student discounts. J.Crew does (even at the outlet). Style does not have to equal splurge!
How To: While this Fashionista let us in on some of her budget shopping secrets, there are plenty of other ways to save as well! Thrift shopping is one guaranteed way to find quality pieces for discounted prices. With such a large number of websites that offer vintage designer goods, browsing vintage shops has never been easier. Another great way to save is to keep your eye out for flash sales, sample sales and discounted tickets! While Gilt Groupe offers flash sales on designer goods, Refinery29 and LivingSocial occasionally also offer unbeatable deals on clothing.
