Fashionista Spotlight

For the last month or so, campuses all over the country were lackluster… literally. Fashionistas left for the winter break and took their standout styles with them. Last week, I caught up with one Fashionista ready to head back to school. Her campus is like a fashion show, and her path to class is the runway. No doubt about it, her stay in Texas was no different. She always stays true to her style wherever she goes. It’s only halfway through January and this Fashionista has already started the year off the only way she knows how: in style. I mean, as if there is any other way.

Name: Jailyn Marcel

Major: Broadcast Journalism

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and how would you describe your style?

Jailyn Marcel: My jacket and heels are from Zara and my dress is from Forever 21. My bracelet is by David Yurman. This is my school bag, and it’s 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target. As for my style, I am more dressed up than not, and I love heels. I wear them more than any other type of shoe. Oh, and I love almost anything shiny and sparkly.

CF: What are some of your favorite things to wear, as the weather gets colder?

JM: I go to school in D.C., so boots are essential. I love over-the-knee boots right now. I’m dying to have Stuart Weitzman’s Highland boots. I also really like nice leather gloves. Banana Republic has some in bright colors that I plan on getting soon.

CF: What is your ultimate go-to item?

JM: My go-to item is practically any pair of heels. I love heels because they can pretty much dress up any outfit. My favorite heels that I own right now are my nude Valentino patent leather pumps. They give an edge to any outfit, and I love the gold spikes on them.

CF: Where are you favorite places to shop?

JM: I like Zara, NASTY GAL, Polyvore online and a few boutiques in Texas. I like cool boutiques because you can find things other people don’t have.

CF: If you could have anyone’s closet, whose would it be?

JM: I can’t pick just one! I choose Jackie Kennedy, actress and fashion blogger Ashley Madekwe, Dani Song, who is also a style blogger, and my friend Kara. I want them all!

How To: Not only can you recreate this Fashionista’s look for class, but her outfit is also great for brunch with friends, a date night, an office party and so much more. Mixing prints is the thing to do now, so go for it! You can swap the black heels and/or bag for leopard print instead. Your solid jacket will tame the busy, yet very chic prints! Less is more, so with your statement prints, accessorize with just one or two jewelry pieces.
