Fashionista Spotlight

It’s always nice to visit home every once in a while. It’s nice to sleep to be able to sleep in your own bed, get your laundry done (thanks, mom!) and catch up with old friends. However, if you happen to be from Ann Arbor, Michigan, it’s especially nice to visit for people watching (see my first article). Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of plaid, but what caught my attention about this week’s Fashionista were her deep-purple cords. I haven’t rocked a pair  of colored pants since middle school (I thought my neon yellow J.Crew denim pants were so cool…), but she shows us that colored pants don’t always have to tacky. In fact, with a plaid flannel, ankle boots and dainty jewelry (statement necklaces are slowly going out of style), colored pants have never looked better.

Name: Isabel Sandweiss

Major: History

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: I love your outfit, tell me about it!

Isabel Sandweiss: Well, to be honest, I don’t normally wear cords. The jeans I wear every day had a hole in them, so I found these in a pile this morning while I was getting ready for class and I actually kind of like them. I feel like it goes with my earthy style. I’ve lived in Ann Arbor my entire life, which you could definitely say has a “hipster” vibe to it. I usually like to stick with cool tones since I’m pale and I wear these boots every day. I love them because they go with everything.

CF: What are some of your favorite stores to shop at?

IS: I like Urban Outfitters, Pitaya, Gap, Von Maur and Anthropologie.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

IS: I tend to lean towards earthy tones and cool tones, I don’t really like bright colors. I like to dress comfortably. I’m a big fan of jeans and dresses in the summer. I like outfits that flow together and more minimal jewelry. I don’t like anything clunky or shocking. I guess you can say my style is natural and earthy.

CF: What would you never wear?

IS: I don’t like anything clunky, it just doesn’t make sense to me. I’m also not a huge fan of jumpers.

How To: Start with a pair of colored cords (deep colors keep them grown-up) and brown booties. On top, layer a plaid flannel (I got one from Madwell recently that’s amazing) over a simple V-neck and keep jewelry minimal for the effortlessly cool vibe. There’s nothing tacky about this week’s ensemble!
